New Green Oak Barn -Houghton- Hampshire- 2003

We were asked by our client to build a new green oak barn frame, the barn is linked to the exsisiting house. it has an ailse on one side and is floored throughout. there is also a porch on one side.

The client was personally involved in the design of the Oak frame , we worked very closley with the client to achieve the end result which we were all extremley happy with.

The porch is directly glazed with toughened double glazed units with oak cover boards which replicate the oak frame, this allows for maximum light and is completley weatherproof, while keeping the asthetics of a traditional barn.

The Barn has a complete oak roof with oak rafters, principal rafters, purlins, and wind bracing. The building is floored throughout with oak joists and floor beams. A warm wall and roof system was used to attain the correct insulation values.
The barn has a 3/4 open aisle on one side with the posts sat on stone .The roof is to be tiled with hand made clay tiles

Douglas fir boarding with oak corner stops have been used , left untreated the boards will tone down to a natural shade of grey.
The external doors and windows are made of air dried english oak.The windows have diamond mullions, the doors are framed ledged and braced. The traditional style of the joinery compliments the building.

The oak frame has been sand blasted and can be left natural or one or two coats of teak oil can be applied
